The Bible often compares our spiritual journey to a race. This race requires us to keep our eyes fixed on Jesus, who is the author and finisher of our faith. Just as a runner does not look back but presses forward towards the goal, we are encouraged to forget what lies behind and strain toward what lies ahead. This requires discipline, perseverance, and a heart fully committed to God.
Think about the story of Elijah. After his victory over the prophets of Baal, he ran ahead of King Ahab’s chariot, empowered by the Lord. This act of running symbolizes divine strength given to those who serve God faithfully.
